What you don’t expect….

We moved into one caravan park and had comfortably been staying there for a night enjoying the peace when a small car drove in. They were ushered to approximately 35 metres from our site and out hopped three small children and a woman. When I looked back I noticed a man also had got out of the passenger side of the vehicle with three puppies. He had been sitting low down.

The woman had been interested in the small blow up pool nearby and the manager told her about the facilities and the wildlife. She just did not seem to stop talking..and she was talking at speed and went on and on. The kids started to explore the area with the little one running across the road in the park and the others were showing great excitement.

I had been sitting outside my caravan and my husband was down near the clothes line across from the area they were in. The woman approached him for a loan of a hammer to put in the pegs to their tent. My husband sent the woman up to me and I was busy trying to dig it out of the front boot of the caravan as the woman still chatted on and on and on. She said she came from Caboolture and was headed to Newcastle…nearly got the life story.

I got out the hammer and she handed it to the small child (approximately 2 yrs old) who proceeded to walk back across the road with the sharp points facing his head. As the woman got back to the car the man just exploded into a temper with every second word starting with “F”. The children went quiet and he screamed and screamed at her.

He said he did not want to stay that there was no f….. creek, no f…. water, just f…ing bore water. He said where had she f…ing been, she was f… meant to be doing the f…ing tent….He kept on and on, slamming doors to the car, slamming the boot….I thought he would just stop after that..but no …15 minutes later he was still yelling and screaming and swearing.

The next thing my hammer landed 1 metre from my car and 2 metres from me. He had thrown it 30 metres..his way of returning it. I looked over at the hammer and was quite startled and looked at the man but he was too busy throwing a tantrum..my husband was going to go and tell the man off but we decided against it. The man kept on ranting and screaming. My thoughts were for the three little children who had been put back in the car by the woman. We moved into our caravan to get out of sight.

We rang the manager of the caravan park and explained what was going on and the manager came straight away. The man was still yelling when the manager pulled up and then started yelling at the manager. We got out of our caravan to help and the man seemed to be putting things back in the car. The manager started to take photos of the car and we moved over to give her support.

She said she had the number plate but as soon as she mentioned calling the police the woman apologised and apologised and jumped in the drivers seat. Superman just hopped in the passenger seat. The woman apparently had not paid on entering the park…said she could not transfer money or something …and would pay later.

They had not mentioned to the manager that the man existed as they came in the park, as the woman said she was a single mother. She also did not mention they had three dogs. As they drove out my thoughts went to the children and what sort of danger they were in.

Everyone is usually so pleasant when we travel and we have never had any problems. This incident seemed to be unusual for the area. I feel so strongly for the caravan park owners who have to put up with whatever and whoever turn up.
